Sustainability

Our sustainability strategy is designed to ensure a worthwhile future on planet Earth. We constantly review new measures and share new findings and projects with you.

Challenging insights

Last year, we extensively discussed the issue of sustainability and gained important insights. In pursuit of our goal to become a sustainable business, initial environmental footprints were produced for every brick-and-mortar Swiss Casino, our online casino, Swiss Casinos Holding AG and Restaurant George Bar & Grill, in partnership with Carbotech.

These environmental footprints revealed that the majority of our carbon emissions are generated by the arrivals and departures of our guests, as well as by our employees’ commutes. As we can only indirectly influence these values, this area represents the biggest challenge for our sustainability strategy. Nevertheless, we are aware that it is our responsibility to do everything we can to minimize the carbon emissions of our activities and appropriately offset any unavoidable emissions.

National commitment to limit global warming

As part of the Paris Climate Agreement, Switzerland is committed to halving its greenhouse gas emissions by 2030 compared to 1990 and reducing these to zero from 2050 onwards. Switzerland is therefore pursuing the internationally agreed goal of limiting global warming to a maximum of 1.5°C compared to the pre-industrial era.

As a company based in Switzerland that shares the country’s values, it is important that we play our part in achieving this goal. As an initial step, we have therefore identified appropriate measures with myclimate to offset any unavoidable emissions arising from our activities.

Initial measures

We have opted for the two reforestation projects at Beatenberg in the canton of Bern and in Alimugonza & Ongo Forest in Uganda. At the same time, we are reforesting cleared areas in Togo as protected commercial timberland. This not only absorbs CO2, but also enables the village population to make a living.

In parallel to these offsetting measures, we are also working with our suppliers to develop strategies to reduce carbon emissions in the areas of procurement, IT, infrastructure, energy, company vehicles and more.
